Be weather Smart!!!
Throughout this week and next, there is a chance for isolated/scattered thunderstorms in the Huntsville/Madison Area. As of right now, the chance for these storms is low. Most likely, games/practices will not be canceled, unless we get significant rain or the threat increases.
Please be weather smart when you are on the fields. Err on the side of caution. We all want to get the games/practices in if possible but not as the risk of safety. If you hear thunder or see lightening, you are to leave the field and go to your cars. "If you see it flee it, if you hear it, clear it." This is the policy of AYSO Region 498 in Madison. The City of Madison also has a similar policy.
While this all may seem common sense, each time we have bad weather, there is always someone who does not follow these guidelines. A few general guidelines along these lines:
If you are leaving the field and see another AYSO soccer team practice still playing, go up to them and remind them to get off the field because of bad weather.
Always be away of the weather before you head out to the fields. Do not leave your child alone if the possibility of severe weather exists.
Don't assume that if you see lighting in the distance or hear thunder but see no lightening, you are ok. You don't know how fast the storm is approaching and sometimes which way it's going. Also, as we all know from the tragic event that occurred at the airport a while back, things can happen quickly and unexpectedly.
Finally, please use good judgment while on the fields. If you are the coach or referee please keep an eye on the weather. If you are a parent, also be aware, the coaches/referee's have many other duties during games/practices so the more eyes, the better. If we continue to have issues with people failing to clear the fields during bad weather, then we may have to start closing the fields earlier when severe weather exists.
